Interpretations of Songs from Other Voices“I Believe in a Thing Called Love” Lemar (The Darkness)
Posted on September 23, 2009Be careful if you go check out the original version of this song by The Darkness. Because it will become stuck in your head for 5-7 days if you do. It’s just that catchy. I dig this slow R&B treatment even if it still leaves something to be desired. Not bad, Lemar.
“My Sweet Lord” Billy Preston & Friends (George Harrison)
Posted on September 13, 2009What a beautiful tribute to their departed friend George Harrison. Here’s Billy Preston, the fifth Beatle (yep, look it up) with Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Tom Petty and George Harrison’s son. Billy Preston died probably not too long after this was performed.
“Train in Vain” Annie Lennox (The Clash)
Posted on September 01, 2009Maybe it’s my Ameri-centric world view that keeps me baffled at how many Brits make good soul singers. I mean, Annie Lennox is from Aberdeen, Scotland. That’s a long way from Tupelo, for those who don’t know. So while I definitely love her voice, which is soulful, I do not like this cover personally. But maybe you will, so here you go. Annie covers The Clash in “Train in Vain.”
